Music News

The Chancel Choir would like to extend a very special “thank you” to the following Sunday School classes that participated in the talent show: Third Grade, Fourth Grade, Fifth Grade, New Day, Traveling Mercies, Cheers, Grace, and O.H. Joy!. We’d also like to thank all the individual performers: Bradley & Bailey Barefoot, Lauren Kimel, Nicolas and J’nelle Ruscetti, David Caulkins, Beth Palmer, Turner Medlicott, Walker Ballard, and Kristine Kesling. Another special “thank you” goes to the Seekers Sunday School Class who gave a student scholarship. This has been presented to Steffanie Chambers in order for her to attend the Lake Junaluska Choir Member retreat. “Thank you” to Steve Jeremias for taking the time to run the sound for the dress rehearsal and the show. Lastly, we would like to say “thank you” to the entire congregation for coming to our talent show and spaghetti dinner. The funds that were raised will help defray the cost of all twelve choir members who will be attending the Junaluska event on October 23-25.

On October 18th Julie Chambers will be singing a solo for the 8:30 service. For the 11:00 worship service, our Adult Handbell Choirwill be playing a special Prelude and accompanying the Chancel Choir in an arrangement of the well-known hymn “I Love You Lord”.

Praise Bands

Wesley is pleased to offer a variety of worship styles to meet the needs of many people. Our  Praise Bands lead worship in our 8:45 am Lighthouse service.

The Wesley Praise Band was  formed in the summer of 1999.  Since that time, the Wesley Praise Band has provided praise and worship music to the contemporary service as well as a variety of special church events and outreach activities.

The group plays at the 8:45am Lighthouse service twice a month (usually on the 2nd and 4th Sundays). It has a broad repertoire of praise and worship songs and also enjoys playing many of today’s most popular contemporary Christian hits. Their Christian musical influences include: Jars Of Clay, Third Day, Mercy Me, Casting Crowns, Jeremy Camp – just to name a few.

The all-volunteer group consists of church members who play guitar, keyboards, bass, drums and sing. Many of the band members are also active in the local Wilmington music scene. The Wesley Praise Band is committed to spreading God’s message and inspiration through music and invites you to worship with them!

If you are interested in receiving bi-weekly e-mail updates from the band, send them a note at wesleypraiseband@hotmail.com

The Lighthouse Praise Band began in 2004 and rejoices in the opportunity to lead the worship of our contemporary service on the first and fifth Sunday’s of each month.  We enjoy singing the songs of Bid Daddy Weave, David Crowder Band, Chris Tomlin, Todd Agnew and others.  Our goal is to involve the congregation in celebrative praise of the marvelous acts that God has done on our behalf, and to honor Him with moments of heartfelt devotion.  The band includes Jeff Bell (bass guitar, electric guitar, and vocals), Susan Bell( vocals and keyboard), Ken Palmer (percussion), Judy Jeremias (vocals), and Steve Jeremias (keyboard, guitar, and vocals).

Our Youth Praise Band leads worship once per month and is composed of senior high youth who also participate in a musical summer mission project each year.

You may contact the music ministry if you are interested in participating in these groups.   Contact Us.

AWESOME PRAISE Band
Middle School Ensemble
Continuing and Growing for a second year, this choir is for all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who enjoy singing.   Led by Adelaide Brooks, this group is planning some exciting things.

Awesome Praise BandThese singers will work on contemporary Christian music (like you might expect to hear on K-LOVE) and will plan to sing in church 5 or 6 times during the school year.  They have already met a goal that Adelaide has of leading a service before the end of the year.  The ultimate goal is to nurture their musical talents and prepare them for joining the senior high youth praise band.

This group will meet each Sunday evening from 5-6:00pm in the adult choir room (Room 16 on the 2nd floor of the Sanctuary building).

If you are in Grades 6-8, you need to give this a try. It is really exciting!  There is no time like the present to join in the fun.  You can call ahead -- or Just show up at rehearsal time.

For more information, contact  Adelaide at 540-5001  or Contact Us.

Hand bells
Our hand bell choir performs periodically throughout the year, primarily in support of our traditional worship service.  The group is directed by Bettsy Curtis.  It consists of adult hand bell musicians and requires a high level of commitment and (at a minimum) basic musical and sight-reading abilities.  Rehearsals are held on Thursday nights in the balcony of the sanctuary.  The group performs on a five-octave set of Malmark hand bells.

If you are interested in joining or visiting a rehearsal, please contact Bettsy at  bettsyc@welcometowesley.com  for more information or Contact Us.
